That top row center bullets twin, the 130gr no hp version with 10.0gr of ww super handicap shooting a 10-shot group.ĩ.0gr of the same powder using a different bullet. That a 180gr hp that really opens up and mushrooms out nicely at slower speeds when cast with 8bhn/9bhn alloy.ĩ.0gr of most fast burning pistol powders is a good place to start. Just happen to be out of them right now so no picture. The mold also has hp pins and casts a extremely lethal 140gr hp. It was designed specifically for "hunting/308". That's a 150gr bullet with a good meplate. Or the hp pin can be left out and the end result is a 170gr wc for the 30cal's. That bullet can be loaded with the huge flat meplate out or as a hp.Ī 120gr hp that preforms extremely well with the large hp that opens at lower speeds. A lot of casters use 32wc/hbwc's in the 30cal's for small game/replacing the 22lrs. They do an excellent job in the 308's & 30-06's with 3.5gr to 5.0gr of bullseye. Nothing more than a 98gr hbwc for the 32cal target pistols. Some of my favorite 30cal bullets that seem to hold their own at subsonic speeds. Start 9.0gr and work your load down with a specific bullet shooting over a chronograph look for large sd's when the powder charge gets too low.įor bullets I'd be looking at coated/plated lead bullets. I'm sure there's a bunch of other powders I missed. There's 3 things that I would absolutely not do:ĭo not use a filler with pistol powders in rifle cases.Īlmost any fast burning pistol powder and any 100gr bullet to 230gr bullet will work. Another possible concern with long bullets in short throats is that you may engrave the bullet into the rifling and either drive it further into the case on chambering (honestly not a big deal in a case like this) or you may extract the bullet from the case and fling powder all through your action when ejecting a loaded round (very irritating). Even so there is no guarantee these bullets will stabilize in your 1:10, it would be marginal at best. Ensure that the bullet is leaving the barrel with each round if you attempt to explore with exceptionally low charges and heavy bullets and I would encourage you to avoid this if you are not experienced with cast bullets or reloading in general due to potential safety concerns. 300 BLK data should be safe but very much on the low end due to case capacity differencess. However if you can get some of the 230gr and 251gr cast bullets they are worth trying to see if you can get them to function. For my 183 gr cast bullets I tend to size the nose portion to avoid this with a NOE bullet sizer die. In my experience most savages have quite short throats and longer cast bullets can potentially be harder to chamber even if they would stabilize. You can also try some of the very heavy 308 cast bullets but your results are likely to be variable. With 8 gr titegroup they shot very very well and were super quiet. I had some flatbase 30-30 bullets that weighed 170gr. Titegroup is also surprisingly decent at this with lighter bullets. Be very careful to test for keyholing before you put your can on. I have had some issues with stability with 168 bthps in 1:10 twist barrels. Again my barrel is longer and you will potentially need to alter loads between summer and winter to stay subsonic, as you want to be very close to the sound barrier for ballistic reasons but not over. I think I started around 10.5 and had to work down to avoid a sonic crack. Reasonably accurate and as close to Hollywood quiet as you get. Out of a 24" barrel I shoot 183 gr cast bullets with (I think) 9 grains of trailboss. 22 LR RAR with the Sparrow mounted is stupid quiet with the CCI Quiet ammo (756 fps) and still very quiet with CCI subs.Supersonic is going to vary somewhat based on your location and weather conditions so it is hard to say what Supersonic will be for you. I picked up a can of Red Dot in a trade to try and work up some of the 90 grain loads but haven't found my "roundtoit" yet. The 90 XTP over 4-5 grains of Trail Boss is supposed to be stupid quiet and good on smaller animals out to 50-75 yards. I've shot the 190 Sub-X out of a suppressed RAR in 300 Blackout, quiet but not what I'm looking for. Trail Boss is impossible to find and according to Hodgdon won't make the production schedule until next year. A 12 gauge Lee slug can be downloaded to around 1,100 fps at the muzzle and would put some hurt on a hog out to 50 to 75 yards. Max loads to 1,400 fps.ĭidn't see anything heavier / slower, but didn't look that hard either.Įdited: Not sure what bullets would reliably expand at that velocity. There is load data for 150 grain bullets in 308 using Trail Boss.
